First we write down what must work
A test case is a specific step and an expected result. We enter a wrong phone number, see a hint, the request is not sent.
Such a list can be given to another person, and they will check it the same way.
Things break where you do not go
A developer goes through the website one way and does not see problems.
It has to be checked with other people's scenarios. Pressed back after submitting, submitted the form twice, came via an old link. That is where most bugs are.
Numbers are blind to some errors
A block can match the mockup to the pixel in size and still be rotated or cut off.
So the final check overlays images instead of comparing numbers.
There are more screens than it seems
Between a phone and a computer there are tablets, narrow laptops and large monitors.
Layout usually breaks on the borders between them. So we check 26 widths, not three.
